Servicing the needs of the United States Military Forces, General Dynamics and Tactical Systems is in the midst of an expansion project for its Lincoln facility.
The 50,000 square foot expansion for the GD-OTS facility began in March 2019 with a groundbreaking ceremony on March 19 and completion slated for the end of 2019. As a result of this expansion, employment at GD-OTS in Lincoln is expected to increase by around 60 percent once 2019 concludes.
While General Dynamics has called Lincoln home since 1963, it’s largely kept a low profile in north Lincoln. This is the first expansion GD-OTS has undertaken at its facility near North 27th and Superior streets since the late 1980’s. Currently, the plant has around 150,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space.
“This expansion is a direct result of the capability and dedication of the people that work at GD-OTS Lincoln Operations and the confidence that our customers have in our continued ability to live up to our long standing reputation for meeting their most challenging needs and being the best at what we do,” according to Timothy Ek, General Manager GD-OTS Lincoln Operations.
The announcement and following groundbreaking are incredible positives for Lincoln according to Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development Vice President Pat Haverty, who notes how the development will benefit the local economy.
“We are thrilled that General Dynamics has made a long-term commitment to Lincoln over the years and this expansion only solidifies their place in the community for years to come. The physical expansion of their facility, plus the additional jobs created by it will have a very positive impact on Lincoln and our workforce. We congratulate them on their new endeavors.”
Following an eventful 2018 in terms of expansions and signs of growth in the Capital City, 2019 is off to a roaring start as well. Eric Ellis, Vice President and General Manager of Precision Systems at General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical systems says the expansion in Lincoln was a no-brainer.
“The decision to expand our business in Lincoln was easy. The area has much to offer—a thriving economy, engaging community and a talented workforce.”
“We’re excited to grow our company in this region.”
Producing and manufacturing high performing composite structures, GD-OTS Lincoln Operations remains an important partner with the military services and continues to work with each on extending the range of current missiles, identifying and addressing technology gaps in the field of hypersonics and producing various missile and aircraft structures.
The company says this expansion will position its Lincoln operations in line for continued growth as the need for new defense capabilities continues into the future. GD-OTS continues to be a leader in the design and manufacture of composite rocket motor cases, missile launch tubes, pressure vessels and other structures for U.S. defense and aerospace applications.
