MyTern: A Summer Kickoff
June 5 | Fuse | 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
We’re kicking off the summer with the most important working American’s pastime: Happy Hour. Meet with your fellow interns, get a glimpse at the rest of the summer and gather at FUSE, the heart of Lincoln’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Plus, you’re in for more than just free drinks and appetizers. The evening’s theme will be “starting something”. As you begin your careers and meet one another, you’ll be joined by a selection of some of our local entrepreneurs, our bold thinkers and innovators, who can share their story about starting something in Lincoln.
Happy hour will end just in time to lead you into another one of our favorite Lincoln summer activities: Jazz in June kicks off its performance of the season at 7 pm. Food trucks, vendors, music, and a 5,000-person picnic close out a not-so-average Tuesday and leave you excited for the rest of the summer.
MyTern to Play: A (Rail)Yard Games Tournament
June 21 | HQ: Railyard Cube | 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
We take pride in Lincoln’s collaborative community spirit, and it comes with a healthy competitive streak. Our second event brings out both with a yard games tournament in the Railyard, Lincoln’s youngest downtown entertainment district. Teams of interns compete in a round-robin tournament, busting out your best giant Jenga and cornhole strategies while learning more about Lincoln and each other. This event is limited to 200 registrants, so sign up quick to save your spot. There will be prizes for the winners and pizza for all!
MyTern to Pitch: What’s Next for Lincoln?
July 10 | Hudl | 3:00 – 7 p.m.
The landscape of downtown Lincoln changed dramatically between 2000 and 2015. The Downtown Lincoln Association (DLA) is in the process of adding another 15 years to Lincoln’s downtown master plan and MyTern interns will have a chance to help shape it. In teams that represent a cross section of interests and industries, you will create a three-minute pitch for one idea. Local business and entrepreneurship community members will help along the way and judge the pitches to determine a winner. Prizes will be awarded to the top three pitches, and the winning team will have a chance to present their idea to the DLA board.
MyTern to Toast: A Happy Hour Celebration
July 26 | The Single Barrel | 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Before it’s back to class, we’ll make sure you ‘re a Happy Hour pro, giving you a final chance to get together and share what you’ve learned on and off the job. Round out your MyTern experience with free appetizers and advice from Lincoln lovers at the Single Barrel. Most importantly, this is your chance to get the inside scoop from people who used to be in your shoes—interns who turned full-time, local entrepreneurs who made it big, and other young professionals who have mastered adulting in Lincoln. A career worth of opportunity awaits you here. Cheers to that, and to a summer well-spent!
