Agriculture

Lincoln, a centrally-located community of nearly 300,000, is well positioned to cultivate the agricultural industry through its highly educated workforce, existing agriculture-related presence, extensive university research and outstanding quality of life.

More than 4 percent of the region’s workers are employed in the agriculture industry. Opportunities for growth in this industry exist through adoption of emerging technologies and processes, as well as high-value-added production – organic farming, niche farming, biofuels, and the increased use of technology in production and marketing.

Higher Education & Research

Being one of Lincoln’s most important sectors, education and research is becoming a significant export good for the US. With over 150 businesses and nearly 7,100 jobs dedicated to higher education and research, Lincoln is a strong national leader in this industry. Lincoln is home to the flagship institution of the University of Nebraska system, which provides areas of excellence in materials research, electronics engineering and testing, remote sensing technology, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, plant genomics, and entrepreneurship.

Health Services

The medical and life sciences sector is a capital-intensive, highly-technical, and highly-skilled industry in Lincoln. Home to three full-service medical centers, a hospital specializing in heart surgery, and a premier rehabilitation hospital specializing in stroke, brain and spinal cord injury, Lincoln’s medical sector is thriving. The Lincoln heath care system also provides a 24-hour information and service line; an extended-hour illness and injury clinic; eight nursing homes and several in-home-care agencies; and a community blood bank.

The health services industry comprises more than 12 percent of regional employment and contains over 1,000 businesses. Recognized as a growing sector regionally and nationally, Lincoln is well-equipped to continue growth in this industry.

Transportation Equipment

Transportation equipment manufacturing within the Lincoln region is comprised of farm, lawn care and alternative vehicle manufacturing. Big name companies residing in Lincoln are Kawasaki, Duncan Aviation and Toro. The transportation equipment manufacturing sector comprises of nearly 2,000 jobs in Lincoln and has a location quotient of 1.27.
